Application Process

For Residents

Our program is listed in ERAS. We accept both allopathic and osteopathic applicants with an interest in serving Native American and underserved population health needs.
Your personal statement is deeply important to us. Please be sure to describe your background as it relates to Native American health and indicate specifically why you are interested in a tribal-based program.

Interviews are scheduled for select candidates and will take place from October through January.

Application Criteria

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent U.S. Residency. PTHA does not sponsor visas.
  • Physically able to fulfill the requirements of a resident job description after provision of any reasonable accommodations as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • No felonies on record.
  • Suitability for PTHA Mission and Values.
  • You do not have to be Native American to apply—we welcome everyone from any background dedicated to working with Native patients, and are an equal opportunity employer while practicing Native preferences according to law.
Additional Criteria
  • Graduate of a medical school accredited by the Liaison Council for Medical Education (LCME).
  • Application submitted through ERAS within the rules of Match for ACGME.
  • Completed ERAS application including transcript, Dean’s Letter, USMLE or COMLEX transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.
  • We do not accept International Medical Graduates (IMG) of non-LCME schools, even if they are accredited by the Education Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
  • Have failed no more than two medical school courses or rotations. All failures must have been remediated.
  • Passed Step 1 and Step 2 of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) licensing exams.
  • Have failed no more than 1 exam prior to passing on repeat testing. If an exam was failed, repeat must have been passed within 6 months.

Rotations at PTHA

Rotations with our program are available to 3rd and 4th year medical students who are interested in applying to our residency program.  Rotations include clinic experience and in certain cases time on our hospital Family Medicine Hospital Service.  We offer Sub-I experiences. A medical student application is required. Please submit completed application to alind@eptha.com.
